So….I’m just back from eating my way around Lake Garda and can honestly say that Italy is the place to go for food and sunshine, expecially if you have kids – there really is something for everyone. Lets just say that seafood, icecream and wine featured highly on my trip! We ate mostly in Lazise and Bardolino, the most gorgeous towns right on the lake and bang smack in Valpollicello wine country – not so bad!
One dish that featured on many menus was pasta with shrimps, cherry tomatoes and courgettes, in a light tomato sauce (just the juice I think) – delicious and light! Also, Tortellini with ham, cream and mushrooms, a sort of variation on carbonara but without the egg, also very prevalent. You can just see it behind the orange coloured drink in the photo below.
That orangey drink is an Aperol Sprtiz, and everyone drinks them it seems. In the interests of research, I tried it out – so refreshing. Aperol is made by the people who make Campari, and according to themselves its…”Bright orange in color, it has a unique taste, thanks to the secret recipe, which has never been changed, with infusions of selected ingredients including bitter and sweet oranges and many other herbs and roots in perfect proportions. Aperol’s strength is in its low-alcohol content of only 11 percent”. So the next step is the Spritz…”the new Aperol recipe is born: 4 cl Aperol, 6 cl Prosecco and a splash of soda”. A bit like a G&T actually.
We’ll be back!
